Webmasters 101: How to choose the right web host?

Nowadays, everybody owns a website. Well, actually… most people don’t have a website of their own, rather they use services such as MySpace or WordPress.com. While these kind of ready-made content creation services are doubtlessly useful, it’s next to nothing compared to the thrill of setting up an actual website from scratch, registering a domain and deploying the content to a web host. If you’re still unfamiliar with this kind of jargon but all the while you’re interested in learning how to set up your own website, then today I’m offering a little piece of advice.

To create a website, three ingredients are required: a domain name, a content management system, and a webhost. Domain names can be registered in several websites (registrars) at around $10 / year, and content management systems are oftentimes open source, meaning you can just download them from the Internet. Now, when it comes to the webhost, things get a little more complex; that’s because there are many companies offering different kinds of hosting plans – each of which is better for certain profiles of users.

Picking an appropriate webhost can easily become a daunting task for the novice webmaster, unless you know how to take advantage of web site hosting review. That´s a special kind of website focused on the comparison between different web hosts, and they get extremely useful when you’re trying to figure out the best web host to match your needs! Remember, doing a little research at the planning stage can save you many headaches down the road.

What am I doing now? Tweeting, of course!

I’m usually not the kind of person to go around following trends just for the sake of “belonging”, or anything like that. Regardless, I do enjoy keeping up with the latest novelties, particularly when it’s concerned with new and fascinating internet applications /utilities. With that in mind, I’ve been toying with the more-than-popular micro-blogging tool that goes by the name of Twitter.

Simply put, this is a free service where users are invited to constantly broadcast their thoughts (tweets), by answering the perennial question “what are you doing now?” – using no more than 140 characters at a time. Well, the way I see it, Twitter is pretty like a public, internet-based SMS service.

While in essence using Twitter it’s not unlike scribbling on a public wall, the really cool thing about it is that it’s grown into a drastically popular public wall – Which is both a good and bad thing, depending how you look at it. But, rather than forcing you to read my babbling in order to ascertain the nature of the tweet, I’ve rounded up 4 videos that should be watched by novice and experienced twitter user alike:

What are you doing, now?

Kind of lame – but realistic – twitter song:

Interesting twitter song:

Awesome twitter parody:
