Frequent travellers beware, listen carefully to these worst case scenarios before you go on holiday, sleep walking abroad could get you into some incredibly sticky situations.

Here are some of the more exciting sleepwalking related mishaps:

Teenager Falls 25ft out of a Bedroom Window

Back in 2009, Rachel Ward, 18 years old at the time was living with her parents at their lavish 1820’s home. Rachel had decided to retire early that night, at around 9:30PM she made her way upstairs to get some rest, due to her having an Art Exam final the following day.

At some point during the evening Rachel awoke in a semi-conscious state, put on a jumper and clambered out of her 1st story bedroom window. Luckily she landed on a narrow patch of grass, just below her window, otherwise surrounded by gravel and concrete. Possibly one of the stranger things that occurred that evening was that the fall itself did not wake her.

After she had fallen on the grass she frantically shouted for her mother who quickly came outside to see what was going on. She remained in a sleep like trance even as her Mother’s husband carried her upstairs.

Rachel was then taken to hospital to be X-rayed for potential broken bones, although the doctors were completely stunned when they found that she had not broken a single one. The doctors theorised that this was because she had fallen from her window in a completely relaxed state.

Sleepwalker Shoots Himself

63 year old, Sandford Rothman, from Colorado gave himself an unexpected wake-up call, as well as a particularly harsh lesson in gun safety. Sandford frequently sleeps with his 9mm pistol on his bedside presumably for “protection”.

Although on this particular evening he woke to a loud bang followed by a sharp pain to his leg. No doubt he will be more careful with his handgun in the future.

Sleep Snacking Your Way to Obesity

Anna had always struggled with her weight even though she constantly stuck to a strict regime of just 1,200 calories a day and regular exercise. Despite this the mystery pounds kept pilling on and Anna had no idea why. The mystery continued until one day Anna noticed crumbs in between the sheets of her bed. Further investigation of the kitchen proved that she had been eating in her sleep.

After seeing a sleep therapist she was diagnosed with SRED (Sleep Related Eating Disorder). This would cause Anna to get out of bed in the middle of the night and gorge herself on anything her fridge had to offer.

To examine how serious Anna’s problem was the sleep therapist setup cameras in her home. After reviewing the footage it suddenly dawned on Anna and her husband just how serious her sleep disorder was. She watched in horror as she watched herself devour an entire jar of peanut butter (which she detested) and packets of cream cakes.
