Here are the eight things you will need in order to throw an awesome party at college:

1. Decorations

Make sure that wherever you choose to have your party, you make an effort to decorate the space. It is not necessary to spend a lot of money or buy special supplies, but consider hanging up some twinkle lights for ambiance or streamers to let people know that they are in the right place for a party.

2. A Theme

Any party can be fun with the right group of people, but having a theme will make guests talk about it and remember it in the future. Think about something that includes costumes to get people in the spirit. Don’t make dressing up mandatory, but encourage it among friends for added fun. Think about themes like retro, beach or preppy.

3. Party Security

If you plan to have a small party, there might not be a need for security. However, for anything over twenty or thirty people you may need to plan for some kind of security. This might include having someone at the door to ensure that only students are attending, or perhaps hiring a bouncer for a larger event.

4. Refreshments

Most college parties will involve a few options for beverages, including a beers, mixed drinks or sodas. Make sure there is at least one non-alcoholic option for guests who don’t want to drink alcohol or who need to drive home after the party.

5. Budget

Figure out a fair way to gather money from everyone involved in party planning. Write out all the decorations, drinks and other costs that will arise and divide the amount by the number of planners. Collect the money in advance to make sure there are no issues after the party.

6. Advertise the Party

Get your party up on Facebook and Twitter, having all of your friends pass on the invitations. Try to plan your party at least two weeks in advance so you have plenty of time to advertise the event.

7. Prepare the Party Space

If the party is held in your home or dormitory, do your best to prepare the space. Lock any bedroom doors you don’t want people to enter and store any valuable items so they don’t get damaged or stolen.

8. Guest Safety

Have the number of a taxi company available for guests who need a safe driver after a few drinks at your party. You might even want to allow people to sleep overnight rather than drive under the influence.

With these eight party planning tips, you will have a great college party with your friends!
