Job interviews are often some of the most nerve-wracking, tense and pressurised moments of ones’ life. You’re there to get a job, the interviewer asks difficult questions and you’re continually aware of every tendency you’re displaying; it’s a sweaty-back situation that many people fear. So the last thing you want to do is watch a film before your interview which somehow depicts working-life or interviews in a bad way.
Unfortunately, there are quite a few films which do this and could put you off. So, for future reference, here are ones to avoid if you’re just a couple of hours off a job interview.

Step Brothers
Comedy isn’t the best genre of film to watch before an interview, because there’s an extremely high chance you’ll remember a seriously hilarious scene whilst the interviewer is asking you about how you’d deal with a certain situation – and laughing at that moment in uncontrollable hysterics is probably not the best way to impress. So stay away from Step Brothers. Aside from being hilarious, it also has a job interview scene – which, as you can imagine, doesn’t go as smoothly as most generic job interviews go. Let’s just say there’s the mention of someone farting in the scene. Not good.
Horrible Bosses
A film with the title of Horrible Bosses should probably start the alarm bells off, but if it doesn’t, then don’t watch this film before any job interview. The entire premise of the film is about bosses who are horrible, so having this on your mind whilst in an interview is probably going to have some form of a bad reflection upon your performance. You’re definitely going to be visualising how much of a turd the interviewer in front of you would be.
The Devil Wears Prada
Business women are often depicted in movies are tough go-getters, but The Devil Wears Prada’s protagonist is on some next-level-ish. The lovely Anne Hathaway joins a fashion magazine, but this is one place of work you would not want to spend most of your day in. It’ll put you off journalism for life!
Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is a film that you have to watch, just not before a job interview. It features Matt Damon as a juvenile trouble maker who has refuses to use his vast amounts of intelligence for good. Professors and shrinks all attempt to calm the boy down, as he is apparently destined for greatness, but it all seems to no avail – until Robin Williams enters the frame. Unfortunately, Robin wasn’t there when Will went for a job interview for the NSA. Let’s just say his intelligence took over.
Trainspotting
Aside from messing with your head, Trainspotting has quite an interesting job interview scene which will definitely put you off your forthcoming ones. The scene below is pretty much the opposite of what you should do in an interview. Just tell the truth.
The Departed
Ok, we may not live in an era where corrupt cops roam the streets, but if you’ve ever watched The Departed you’ll already know of the unpleasant nature of that particular work-place. Being a cop is a tough job in its self but when you’ve got your own co-workers against you it will make you think twice about the job you’re going for.
American Gangster
Any Denzel Washington film is worth a watch but perhaps not American Gangster just before a big interview – especially if it’s a police-role you’re after. The corrupt cops of New York during the 1960s are enough to put off even the most passionate potential police officer.
Boiler Room
A tough scene which shows just how cut and dry and ruthless the banking/broker industry can be. Sure, you can make millions, but at what expense? It’s probably not one to watch unless you dream in fantasy land and like to ride on the back of unicorns.
