All your base are belong to us, so stay tuned!

Well, some of the regular customers might have noticed the recent lack of updates, but I want to reassure all of you believers that I’ve been around lurking most of the time, and weeding out the site’s archive. Now that I’ve reached my first 1000 posts, I want to take some time to breathe and take notice of the good and bad things I’ve done in this past 18 months of operation, as well as the editorial choices for the future.

resistance is futile??

resistance is futile??

That argument shall be resumed in a further posting. Now for today’s daily reminder why we like it here. Today, I’m talking about yet another one those neighborhood friendly Internet memes, of course! Such things you might have heard of but sometimes you really can’t put your finger to it? Maybe you’ve heard about the Rickroll or the OM NOM NOM and will it blend? – tell you what, I’ll just pop an illustrative example from the awesome XKCD online cartoon:

all about memes?

all about memes?

Now, I don’t mean to suggest that you should waste your romantic life on the pursuit of Internet memes (much the other way around), but still I enjoy keeping up with some of the latest Internet crazes – if nothing else, just for curiosity’s sake. So today we’re discussing the “All your base are belong to us“. If you want detailed information on this meme’s background, check the Wiki article I just linked; but simply put everything started with this cinematic passage from a popular Genesis game in the 1990′s:

To cut a long story short, it was around 2002 when someone decided to bring up this picturesque typo from a video game back-in-the-day, and soon enough the whole of the Internet was singing in harmony to the prophetic engrish saying… and now “all your base are belong to us”! Just like that.

Know your memes: All your base are belong to us.

The Amazing Virtual Mirror… a thing of the past?

Trust me… if there’s something you should keep in mind about life is that it goes by in the blink of an eye. Today’s cutting edge is tomorrow’s obsolete blunt. For example, this interactive mirror may look pretty cool, right now, but in just a few years people will watch this video and think “wow, that’s so early XXI century!”.

So, rather than telling you to enjoy the video and dream about the technologies of the future, let me tell you something. Life is fleeting, and each day propels us recklessly towards oblivion. We should enjoy everything while it lasts, because nothing will last forever. Nothing, I tell you!

The grand slice about… well, nothing at all, really! ( a prelude)

Why… I was sitting here minding my own business, trying to figure out what I should post about next in line, when suddenly the thought ocurred to me, loud, crystalline and rampant:

when thunder strikes...

when thunder strikes...

What’s with the constant need to post about something? I mean, would it be so wrong to just go on in endless rants about nothing at all? Would that leave the visitors curious, confused, side-tracked or merely annoyed? Is that even important, in the grand scheme of things?

the grand scheme of things

the grand scheme of things

I’ve been doing this blogging thing for over a year now, I’m fast-headed towards the 1000th post landmark, and still I’m thinking in the box! I’m thinking boxes upon boxes of how it should be and how everybody is doing it and how I should do my best effort to ascribe to what people expect.

just the thing you've been waiting for...

just the thing you've been waiting for...

Well, what I’ve just realized is that… what people expect is to be surprised! That’s what makes most of us to go on endless click-trough crusades in those long drawn evenings… I mean is there something to that but the desire, the actual need to get surprised?

expect nothing...

expect nothing...

You know, right now I feel strangely compelled to write how I’m sorry that it took me so long to engage this realization on a conscious level, dearest readers… but all the while I’m grateful that nothing is lost, not while the “publish” button is still working and upon reach. Well, I just felt like making an interim post about nothing at all – just like in the good old days of what blogging is supposed to be all about. You. Me. Something. Or just nothing at all? Who cares? Just as long as enjoyment is getting had. We’re in for a ride, so brace yourself… and mark my words.
