Coffee or tea? It’s not just a debate between Europe and America. While Americans do seem to prefer coffee, tea is becoming a more popular option. One reason is that tea is healthier than coffee.
Not only can tea help lower blood pressure, but it can also help with weight loss. While coffee also has some health benefits, tea is the clear winner. Here are five reasons to ditch coffee and switch to tea.
Tea Contains Less Caffeine
Tea does contain caffeine, but it contains up to 50% less than coffee. Caffeine has been targeted as a health risk due to it’s ability to cause dehydration, masses in the breast and other side effects. Not to mention that coffee can disrupt the sleep cycle, while many teas can actually help you sleep, such as chamomile or ginseng.
Coffee Causes the Jitters
Many people that drink too much coffee experience anxiety, this is due to the high level of caffeine. However, herbal teas are well known for their abilities to reduce stress. Lavender, skullcap and chamomile can all help relax tense muscles and calm the nerves.
Coffee May Cause Stomach Problems
Another problem that many people experience with coffee is nausea and heartburn. Drinking too much coffee can really upset the stomach, but even one cup can cause heartburn in those that suffer from acid reflux. On the other hand, some herbal teas can sooth the stomach. A cup of peppermint tea is a great remedy for nausea.
Coffee Can Cause Hypertension
Coffee can also cause high blood pressure. Those that suffer from hypertension should reduce their use of coffee and consider a switch to tea. Some herbal teas have been known to actually lower blood pressure.
Coffee Doesn’t Help With Weight Loss
While black coffee is calorie-free, it won’t do anything to help in your efforts to lose weight. However, green tea is well known for its ability to increase the metabolism. Some people also add lemon to their tea to increase their metabolism even more.
It’s easy to see that tea is much healthier than coffee. Whether you want to be kind to your stomach or get better sleep, tea should be your drink of choice. Not only that, but tea can also help lower blood pressure and help you lose weight. Why not make the switch to a healthier drink? Remember tea is available in thousands of flavors and you’re bound to find one that you love.
