Such a stange world… and they call it The Urf!

Now that I’ve released my own daily webcomic (in another website I’ll tell you about sometime), I’ve been getting progressively drawn into the webcomics scene. And I must say… there are some real classy displays of webcomics-try out there, so I figured I might as well start reviewing some of those. With that in mind, I’ll start by telling you about a nice and shiny example of fine online cartoonism, which is known throughout the Internet as “The Urf.

As you can see, this is indeed a strange universe. Most of the comics in The Urf focus those litlle colorful and pituresque details that make this hypotethical land quite so ever intriguing. There’s already a good deal of posts in the archives, and I’ve decided to pick some of my favorite specimens to illustrate my point – rather than indulging a pointless rant. Hope you’ll enjoy! If not, just stay tuned because I indend making a bunch of posts featuring noteworthy webstrips, so I reckon it’s a matter of time until I bring forth one that will tickle your fancy real nice.

All your base are belong to us, so stay tuned!

Well, some of the regular customers might have noticed the recent lack of updates, but I want to reassure all of you believers that I’ve been around lurking most of the time, and weeding out the site’s archive. Now that I’ve reached my first 1000 posts, I want to take some time to breathe and take notice of the good and bad things I’ve done in this past 18 months of operation, as well as the editorial choices for the future.

resistance is futile??

resistance is futile??

That argument shall be resumed in a further posting. Now for today’s daily reminder why we like it here. Today, I’m talking about yet another one those neighborhood friendly Internet memes, of course! Such things you might have heard of but sometimes you really can’t put your finger to it? Maybe you’ve heard about the Rickroll or the OM NOM NOM and will it blend? – tell you what, I’ll just pop an illustrative example from the awesome XKCD online cartoon:

all about memes?

all about memes?

Now, I don’t mean to suggest that you should waste your romantic life on the pursuit of Internet memes (much the other way around), but still I enjoy keeping up with some of the latest Internet crazes – if nothing else, just for curiosity’s sake. So today we’re discussing the “All your base are belong to us“. If you want detailed information on this meme’s background, check the Wiki article I just linked; but simply put everything started with this cinematic passage from a popular Genesis game in the 1990′s:

To cut a long story short, it was around 2002 when someone decided to bring up this picturesque typo from a video game back-in-the-day, and soon enough the whole of the Internet was singing in harmony to the prophetic engrish saying… and now “all your base are belong to us”! Just like that.

Know your memes: All your base are belong to us.

United we get Across, Divided we’d Stumble!

I just stumbled across this cartoon (author unkown) which clearly demonstrates an important principle which should not be taken lightly: when people effectively work together as a team, the whole is always greater than just a sum of the parts. I felt like sharing the picture, along with a little food for thought, so brace yourself:

this is how we do it!

this is how we do it!

This reminds me of that old chinese story, which revolved around twigs… you see, you can easily break 10 twigs separately, but once you join them together, it will be unlikely you can break them at once (unless you have got some super-breaking powers, or something like that). Keep this in mind for future reference! It may not sound like much, but trust me… anyone who suceeds in genuinely working as a team will succeed in going places he never be capable of getting at on his own.
