Your home in cyberspace: webhosting as online real estate.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Here’s a good tip for all the newbie webmasters out there, looking to set up their own domains:

If you think getting a new home in the off-line real estate world takes some skills and knowledge, let me tell you this: getting a new home on-line to host your website is probably even trickier… Simply because in both scenarios there is a good chance you’ll get deceived with technicalities, unless you’re familiar with the industry.

When it comes to finding an ideal webhost, the best option is really a matter of what you’re looking for, the kind of website you’re putting together, as well as your overall strategies. So the best webhost for me is not necessarily the best host for you; since there are no specific formulas or universal best options, it usually takes a little research to come up a webhost that really suits you: this is usually a boring and unnecessarily complicated task unless you find a decent web hosting reviews website.

This kind of resource is valuable for people shopping around for webhosting because it provides something very important: perspective. Not only does it get easier to compare different webhosts at a glance, but there are also some useful articles with useful information about the webhosting industry. By making a little research before you settle upon a webhost, you’ll save yourself from many headaches down the road. So if you’re planning on running your own website, this is something you might want to look into. Just a thought.

Happy Birthday dear Google, happy Birthday (x10) to you!

10 years ago, something special took place in this dimensional plane, that would forever change the way millions of people around the globe retrieved information from the vast world wide web landscapes. Yes, it was in September 1998 that Google went publicly incorporated as a revolutionary new search engine… and look where they are now.

ah... time really does fly, when you're having fun!

ah... time really does fly, when you're having fun.

All over the place, I say. In more than a good way, thankfully. So I’d like to offer this humble salutation as proof of my thanks for making the Internet a better place. Even though today a PageRank update also took place that shook down this website to zeroes (meaning Google does by no means put this website in high remarks), I’m holding no personal grudge, and I’m still thankful to the big G for all it represents. Life is fleeting and so is PageRank… who cares about that anyway, while we’re still having fun?

Here’s to hoping I’ll be around in 10 years for a 20th anniversary salutation post! So many things change in a decade… I get a little dazed trying to picture myself in 10 years looking back to this very post. Well, time cross flow, one really never knows… let’s just wait and see.

Well… as a final nod, I’m leaving you all with this graphic homage of sorts…. official Google holiday logo collection! Also check here for a technical run-down on Google’s anniversaries. Rock on, big G!

So check out this buick supercharger, and get dreaming on super charging your vehicle… just as long as you don’t go overboard. And I mean that literally… you should know that with great speed comes great responsability!

“Don’t pick up the phone”, or the fonejacker may get you a laughing stroke!

For everyone who’s a fan of prank calls, I’m about to present the next best thing ever since Bart Simpson picked up a phone and dialed Moe’s tavern. This is called Fonejacker and it’s a fast-paced semi-reality show revolving around the telephonic exploitations of a character whose central agenda is none other than to:

“seize control of a telephone conversation by farce esp. to divert it from reason and logic”

Sounds promising, uh? This british show is on the way to its third season of madness and public exploitation, and judging from the growing legions of fans, it won’t stop anytime soon. So if prank calls are the kind of thing that floats your boat, you might to want to look into this show!

Through the home motions: a whole new concept of truck rental.

Yes, I know… moving to a new house can be one of life’s top sweet & sour experiences. On one hand, there’s the sweet of getting a new home, a new beggining and a new chance for a better living; on the other hand… there’s the whole moving scenario. As in, packing all your thinks, stripping your old house clean, putting everything in boxes and moving everything to the new house, unpacking and getting started with the new home thing.

Well, that’s that, right? And I certainly can’t help you deal with the sweet & sour conflit… however, I can let you in on a sweet deal which can make the sour part just a little tad effortless. It’s even better than truck rentals and it’s a whole new way of organizing the physical translation of your items. You see, rather than renting a truck to help you move, this concept revolves around rental cargo containers and a “you pack, they drive” philosophy. So you just load your cargo, they take it to the designated place, and you handle the unpacking - without stress or worries, and at a substacially lower price than hiring a company to do all the work for you.

Sounds interesting? I though so, and I figured it might come in handy. This is a slice you want to get bookmarked, unless you’re planning to stay in your present home forever (like so):

Google wants to help us make a better world! Are you in?

Good news, everyone! Word just got out on Google’s “Project 10 to the 100“, a rather interesting and unique initiative. Simply put, Google is setting aside $10 Million to support, fund and implement ideas that will somehow help make a better world. So, at this moment, they’re asking for such ideas to get the ball rolling!

You can submit your own until the 20th of October, and early next year a voting will take place, from where 5 ideas will be selected for. So, at this point all I can say is… let’s brainstorm together! I’ve just submitted my own idea, and I hope you’ll feel encouraged to do the same. If there was a time the Internet could be used to effectively bring about a better day, this is it! So let’s get those gears spinning and come up with something real good, okay?

It’s time to suit up? Well, get measured for a perfect fit!

Let me put something straight before I get on with this: I absolutely, positively hate suits; if I could, I’d wear loose jeans and sneakers all the time. However, I’m very much aware how suits can be a necessary evil, particularly for people who are not the slacker work-at-home-from-your-loose-jeans type. Well, to be honest it’s not suits that I dislike, it’s just the overarching idea that somehow a habit makes a monk. Well, in my opinion it doesn’t; you can be a monk without looking like one, and you can be a wicked business person without having to suit up. All the while, there are occasions when a nice suit comes in handy, particularly when it’s Made to Measure.

What does it mean to get plutoed? Let’s hope to never find out personally!

In its 17th annual words of the year vote, the American Dialect Society voted “plutoed” as the word of the year, in a run-off against climate canary. To pluto is to demote or devalue someone or something, as happened to the former planet Pluto when the General Assembly of
the International Astronomical Union decided Pluto no longer met its definition of a planet.Source

Okay, so you have probably heard about the de-promotion of pluto the planet (not pluto the dog, he’s still held in high remarks), but chances are you didn’t know that an actual new word had been coined out of the surrounding affair. So please update your dictionaries, and take stock of what “getting plutoed” means… while hoping you never have to experience that personally.

Yeah, we all know science can be cruel, it its self-ascribed righteousness and delusions of “objectivity”… but come on… the lil’ guy had been hanging tight for so many years along with the rest of the solar system. Was there really an actual need to get technical and pick on him… actually pick him out from the bunch? Shame on you, scientific people. For all your brains’ worth, it’s clear to me you have no hearts, and you’ve just proved so with this pluto issue.

You might was well hope science doesn’t get pluto’ed someday when they discover the next best thing. You hear me? Now LEAVE PLUTO ALONE! You don’t know what it’s been through! You don’t know what it’s like to be a floating mass in the outskirts of a solar system. You don’t know, do you? With all your scientific methods, and measurement scales and whatnot, you really don’t know what it’s like to be a planet. So, leave pluto alone! I mean, let him join the rest of planets like in the good old days. Can’t we just get back to being a good and happy solar system, like we used to?

leave pluto alone!
