time for A-change
Just to make something clear: at the time I’m writing this there is still no word on the result of the Presidential Elections… so everything can happen. But you know what? America is such a huge place, and even though there is massive moronity (as demonstrated in the previous 2 elections), there is also much hope and willingness to make a better tomorrow… after all we’re talking about the global cauldron. If there’s no hope for America, there’s no hope for the world.Fortunately though, I’m very confident there is hope for America, as well as for the world.
I perceive positive change all around, and some things are changing indeed. Let’s take this Obama guy, for example… it has been a few years since I’ve first heard about him, and I always got a distinctive feeling there was something… different - in a good way - about him; and it turns out I’m not the only one to think so. Like I said, at the time I’m writing this there’s still no word on who the next president of the USA is going to be, but in my mind, the answer to that question has been quite clear for a long, long time (even when I once stated otherwise… but that was just to confuse the Republicans). And the answer is:
Don’t you love it when different things without much apparent connection suddenly strike you as some kind of awkward match? As though it was some kind of universal puzzle fitting in with itself? This morning I caught glimpse of the picture up there while leisurely strolling (do not confuse with “trolling”) the Internet. In case you don’t get it, the newspaper headline says “Woman spotted yesterday reading today’s paper”. Well, to be honest I thought it was a nice picture, but I didn’t spend much time with it. Just until a few minutes ago, while browsing the insanely cool Subnormality from Virus Comix, I found the following cartoon (which by the way reads ” Local man devoured by newspaper box“: Continue Reading »
Being alive sure is a wonderful feeling, but when it comes to moral regards, life certainly can be a fertile ground for dilemmas. Personally, I’m a big fan of privacy… but all the while I’m a huge fan of transparency. So it’s no surprise that sometimes I get mixed feelings about certain things. As rule of thumb, it’s best to keep in mind though, that every coin is double-sided. So, if you’ll indulge my reasoning, I’ll provide you with a specific example: Hacking email accounts.
I’ve just stumbled across this great post focusing on How to hack hotmail accounts, and at first I thought… bloody hell, what’s wrong with those people, spreading such knowledge. Nothing good can come out of that, and it disseminating such information will only spread chaos and disrupt our collective well-being. But then it ocurred to me that transparency is more important than privacy; this may sound like an inconvenient remark, and it may sound as though I’m expressing my anarchist side… but come on, think with me.
Knowledge is neither good or bad. Spreading knowledge is always good, even when it looks disruptive. Not only can I list a number a reasons - off the top of my head - that people would have a legitimate interest in hacking someone else’s email…. truth of the matter, that’s wholly besides the point. I’m all for free dissemination of information… even when it hurts. Truth may appear inconvenient from our personal, limited standpoints, but on a grand scale, I feel truth is liberating. It may sound contradictory, but spreading exploits such as this one is the best way of a) informing people and helping them keep protected, and b) preventing ill-willed people from abusing such exploits.
Granted, you might argue: “what if someone hacked into your email account, would that make you happy?”; to which I’ll reply… “on a grand scale that’s absolutely irrelevant; nothing but an egotistic trifle”. On a grand scale, spreading this methods will bring them into public knowledge, and such popularization will ultimately lead Hotmail to develop new strategies that will make these techniques obsolete… until new techniques are eventually uncovered. That’s what I’m telling you, little Simbas from all across the vast cyberspace landscapes… it’s just the circle of life.
I keep telling people that war is a bad thing, but no one seems to really listen. Then I tell them that most modern wars are nothing but excuses to cover up obscure political agendas, and they accuse me of being a conspiracy theorist. Fortunately though, there are still people (or at least antropomorphic dogs) of good sense out there, who are capable to see things for what they are.
Sadly, this funny clip reminds me of that old saying… “people are smart, but crowds are stupid” - which is this case could be rephrased as “people are smart, but Peter Griffins are stupid. I just keep wondering… it’s granted our public opinion is easily influenced and manipulated by the powers that be; what I really don’t get it is how come it only seems to work with negativity and hatred! If only people could be manipulated into realizing we’re better off getting all along… if only.
Okay, so it’s not like I have something against religion. Trust me, it’s the INSTITUTION supporting it that sometimes gets on my nerves, along with the READY-MADE moral precepts. Furthermore, I think it’s rather annoying that religions are normally mutually exclusive. If there’s only one God, why the need for several religions? I mean, that sounds more like football than spirituality… rather than proving we should all get along, institutionalized religion is all about proving which is the better club. That’s kind of dumb, if you ask me… because we really should all be getting along, despite our religious background or lack thereof!
“Wisdom is having gained knowledge, experience, and intuitive understanding, along with a capacity to apply these well. It is the judicious application of knowledge.” (Wiki)
Wisdom is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot, particularly by people who really aren’t so wise. In all circumstance, it’s still possible to make a movie focused on providing viewers with a certain understanding of what wisdom is all about, without being overtly unwise… and this video is actually the trailer to such movie. I’ve found it rather captivating, so hopefully you’ll feel the same.
While watching this, I kept thinking what I would answer if someone asked me that question… “What is Wisdom really all about?”. I think I’d have to say that wisdom is all about not pretending to know for sure what wisdom is, but all the while having courage to believe in our own inner wisdom. All in all, I think wisdom is not unlike balance. Does that make any sense to you? If someone can come up with a better definition, I hope you’ll share with the rest of us via comments.
Unless you’re some kind of haphazard time traveller, I’m pretty sure this will come as no surprise: the world keeps changing, and the future is right here and now… and progressively even more so. In our fast-paced contemporary societies, we’re no longer worried with imagining how the future will turn out, because we’re rather busy participating in making the future, each and every day. Everything is changing, and in time, change becomes us; welcome to the days of the future past.
Not at all unlike life, the popular tv show “the wheel of Fortune” is capable of amusing us with oftentimes unpredictable moments of sheer amusement and irony. Today I’m about to show you one such video, along with a heads-up: sometimes we’re only treated with loss because we fail to see how triumph is just waiting for us to call its name. Similarly, there are occasions when our small distractions easily transmute into genuine self-fulfilling prophecies. So do you best to remain alert in your daily endeavours, and (why not) make room for good things to happen in your life!
The past few days I’ve headed back to my hometown, after a few months absence, to visit the family. I’m not saying I’ve headed home, because I think home is two places at once: where you place your hat (head -> mind) and where you nurture your feelings (heart). In other words, I feel like I’m home to my self, and for this reason I didn’t start this reasoning claiming I’d headed back home… because I never quite leave home, in the sense I perceive it.
All the while, as I travelled back to the place where I was born and raised, I could not keep myself from thinking… It’s amazing how old things get renewed, after just a short absence. Everything looks fresh and sparkling, and nothing seems dull as it sometimes did, when I roamed around the same places all over again. In all truth, this is probably one of the greatest things about travelling - getting back to where you came from with a freshly renewed sense of perspective.
