It’s always a pleasure to share the work of talented artists here at Slices of Life, and today we’re bringing up the drawings of a promising up-and-coming illustrator from Canada: Michelle Woodward.

Hailing from Toronto, Michelle has already been published at renowned magazines such as Creative Quarterly and text book publishers such as Mcgraw Hill-Ryerson, even though she’s relatively new to the scene. A BAA Illustration graduate of Sheridan College, she started her career as a free-lance illustrator ever since; those in the know will easily notice the strength of her work, as displayed in the gallery at the end of this post.

Woodward’s drawings are distinctive in their elegant line art and atmospheric colors, which convey a subtle but decisive influence of oriental Anime. As you can see below, the artist specializes in creating moody and vibrant illustrations with a hint of the surreal thrown in for good measure. For the sake of comparison one could bring up names such as Paul Pope, even though Michelle is clearly doing her own thing.

By looking at the following pictures, anyone who’s visually inclined will surely notice a steady progression in the quality of her work — suggesting this blooming artist has great potential yet to be uncovered. Michele Woodward is a name to take note of, and anyone looking to support her cause should consider ordering some prints from her Society6 Profile. She’s also currently open to commissions — and to anyone interested, our advice would be: hire her while you can still afford her.
