Secrets to the Perfect Hairstyle

Creating and keeping the perfect hairstyle is something that everyone wants but some find difficult to achieve on a daily basis. There are some things you can do to avoid those bad hair days and always look and feel your best.

Getting the right cut

A regular cut is essential for great looking hair. You can get rid of split ends and keep your style up to date. If you have a short style you may need a regular trim. With long hair, you may be able to leave a longer gap between cuts, but it should be trimmed regularly to maintain its shape and avoid split ends.

Talk to your stylist about how to care for your hair. They will be able to advise you on the best products and the best range of professional hair dyers to keep your colour looking great.

Consider the best style for your face shape. Short styles with lots of volume can make a round face look larger, whilst a shoulder length do will lengthen your face and neck. If your face is long and thin, long straight hair will enhance this, so try some choppy layers to give some shape and volume.

Perfect straight hair

Shiny poker straight hair looks healthy and beautiful. Ceramic irons can be used to flatten frizz. Ensure the hair is completely dry and separate the hair into sections. If your hair is layered, flicking the ends out slightly as you use the tongs will add volume, enhancing your layered look.

A ceramic flat iron will create more shine on your hair. If you have short hair, try to avoid using irons with wide plates. You can also add volume and texture by using dry shampoo or leave-in conditioner. Styling works better on hair that has not been washed. The hair will retain more of its natural oils and hold the style better. Try not to use too many products on your hair; one to style it and one to finish is enough to hold your style without your hair looking or feeling sticky or crunchy.

Flirty curls

Creating gorgeous curls and keeping them all day can be difficult, even for those with naturally curly hair, as it is prone to frizz. Over-conditioning your hair will make it too soft to hold your style and the curls will drop out.

Curls can be created using either rollers or curling irons. Blow dry your hair thoroughly before using curling irons to ensure your hair is completely dry, otherwise it will cause heat damage and create frizz.
When using rollers or curling irons, alternate the direction of the curl for a natural effect. Use your fingers to gently break up the curls. When you have the look you want, give your hair a light misting of hairspray; too much will make the curl look hard.

Try not to touch your curls during the day. This creates frizz and will cause your curls to drop faster. If you want pretty waves without frizz, dampen your hair and use a hairdryer and a round brush to smooth out your hair.

For sexy, wavy curls, give your hair a spritz with sea salt and water. Sea salt naturally enhances curls and waves and this is easy to make yourself with a small spray bottle, water and a few spoonfuls of sea salt.

Keep some small hair products in your handbag for instant touch ups when you are out and about. A bottle of hairspray or shiner is perfect for keeping your hairstyle perfect all day.
