They are the stuff of every parent’s nightmares, and the dream of every graduating senior: party schools! If you’re sending your child off to college this fall, there’s no doubt you’ll be trying to avoid these schools.

If you, yourself, are heading off to college this fall, there’s no doubt at least a few of these schools will be on your short list. No matter which side of the fence you sit on, here are the top ten party schools for 2012:

1. Ohio University – Athens, Ohio

While it has some of the best athletic facilities in the nation, always makes “the most beautiful campus” lists, and has a major presence among major fraternities and sororities, OU is best known for its major blowouts! Students from around the country flock to OU for its annual Halloween party.

2. University of Georgia – Athens, Georgia

This school held the number one spot last year and was only beat out by OU by a hair this year. In addition to being a top party school, the university is a fabulous option for foodies; often making the top ten lists of best food options on campus.

3. University of Mississippi – University, Mississippi

Nicknamed “Ole Miss”, this university is also tops for Greek life, athletics and campus life. If you want to head south for school and party until you drop, this is the university to choose.

4. University of Iowa – Iowa City, Iowa

Many people would never stop to consider that a school in Iowa would be known for partying but, really, what else is there to do in the state? Greek life and athletics also rank highly at this school; making it a great place to grab a beer after the game.

5. University of California – Santa Barbara, California

Situated on the Pacific Coast, this school is the place to be if you want to soak up the sun in between your classes. The laid back university has some of the happiest, healthiest students in the country; aside from the frequent hangovers experienced by the student body.

6. West Virginia University – Morgantown, West Virginia

When the party stops at OU, head down to WVU and keep the good times going. Parents: don’t fret! This school also boasts one of the best college libraries in the nation.

7. Pennsylvania State University – University Park, Pennsylvania

Penn State is one of the most popular schools in the nation. The school also covets spots on the lists of intramural sports, jock schools, best newspaper, best library and best career services.

8. Florida State University – Tallahassee, Florida

Another school that makes it easy to work on your tan while hitting the books, FSU is best known for their mascot, the Gator.

9. University of Florida – Gainesville, Florida

Aside from beer pong, this school offers one of the best career service centers in the nation. In fact, it ranks number one for career services! The campus also has a decent student health clinic and some of the best athletic facilities.

10. University of Texas – Austin, Texas

This school also makes the list for best college library, best career services, happiest students and best college newspaper. Remember that everything is bigger in Texas; that includes the parties!

Mom and dad: don’t worry if your kid enrolls in one of these ten schools. Parties can be found at any college or university. At one time or another, you’ll have to cut the strings and let your child learn some lessons on their own. Kids: it’s up to you to act like a responsible young adult no matter where you enroll!
