Anyone can start a business; that’s a fact. You don’t need to be smart, savvy or even well-educated to start your own company. However, if you want that company to succeed, you may want to get yourself back to school and earn your business degree. For the purpose of this blog, we’ll assume that you didn’t start a business so your friends can say “told you so” when you fail. When you earn your business degree online, it can not only help you succeed, but can keep those nay saying friends in their place.
Here’s how a business degree can drive you business:
1. Money, Money, Money
Did you start your business with the plan to lose your shirt in the process? That’s doubtful. Most people start a business with the dream of becoming the next Bill Gates or Donald Trump. A business degree can give you the smarts you’ll need to run your salary through the roof; paying for your degree time and time over. Think of your degree as guaranteeing a life of filet mignon and champagne instead of chicken nuggets and juice boxes.
2. The Right Plan
If you jotted your business plan down on a napkin while tossing a few back at the local bar with your friends, you’ve really got to get a better structure. While your napkin plan may have the beginnings of a great business, it’s not going to sustain you for very long. By earning your business degree, you’ll have a better idea of how proper business plans are structured and can create one of your own; this time on real paper.
3. Investors
By investors, we don’t mean each of your handfuls of friends kicking in $5 apiece; we’re talking big money capital from big money investors. Very few investors are going to take the chance on a company run by a kid with a degree in basket weaving. Earning your business degree online will show people that you are serious about your business and, along with your stellar business plan, will make them feel more comfortable pouring their hard-earned cash into your start-up.
4. Marketing the Right Way
You can market yourself on Facebook if you feel like friend-collecting and spamming, but, beyond that, how will you market yourself? Part of pursuing your online business degree will entail classes in marketing and promotion which can prove incredibly valuable in your new business. If you’re serious about your business, you’ll want to move beyond social media and printed T-shirts to promote yourself.
5. Know-How
When you screw-up in life, chances are high that you know how to fix things, or know someone who does. When you screw-up in business, what will you do? Do you have any idea? With a business degree, you will be more apt to handle the bumps in the road without feeling like you need to toss in the towel. Knowledge is power, after all. Go back to tip number three: the same people that invest in your company are more apt to help someone who has shown that they are serious about their business.
Yes, there are dozens of people that started their business in high school, with very little experience. However, for each of these dozen, there are a million that failed. Earning a business degree online may not guarantee your success but it will help ensure that you don’t go down in a ball of fire.
