The Most Extravagant Car Mods on Earth!

Most die-hard gear heads live by one axiom: bigger is always better. They will often try to prove this proposition by trying to one up each other with their car modifications. If one guy goes for eighteen inch wheels another guy install twenty-two inch wheels. But sometimes this can go too far. In their quest to have the biggest and the baddest, sometimes these guys take their car modifications to the extreme. In order to illustrate this point we have prepared for you a list of the 5 most extravagant car mods. Some of these are brilliant and some are a little weird. But they all have one thing in common. They all are very, very expensive.

1. 50 Inch Rims

One of the most extravagant, and arguably one of the most obnoxious, car mods I have ever seen involved a Oldsmobile Cutlass on 50 inch rims. Yes that’s right. 50 inch rims. Before this over ambitious car modder added these giant rims the previous world record for rims was 40 inches. This modification costs thousands of dollars per tire as the rims had to be specially designed and manufactured.

2. Scissor Doors

This car modification is for anyone who is a huge fan of the movie Back To The Future. These are doors that are on a fixed hinge and open vertically instead of horizontally. Scissor doors are usually placed on Lamborghinis, but they can be placed on just about any car. These type of doors usually cost around $1000, not including the price of installation.

3. Militarized Hummers

Everyone knows that commercial Hummers were first developed by the United States military. That wasn’t enough for one California man, however. He wanted his yellow Hummer to look like it was ready for the battle field. So he took off of the wheels and added a bonafide caterpillar track. Now he can navigate even the roughest environment. This car modification is not only extravagant but practical as well.

4. X-Box Modification

One car owner never wanted to be away from his X-Box, even when he was driving. So he remedied the situation by adding an entire X-Box system to his car. What is extravagant about this modification however, was that he didn’t install it in the back seat but in the front seat. He embedded the controller in the steering wheel and a thirty-two inch LCD in the dash. Might not be safe to drive but it is pretty cool.

5. Picture Rims

Spinners used to be considered a great car modification but that concept has been replaced by custom picture rims. These rims show a back-lit picture behind your rim that really light up at night. The pictures can be just about anything you want from the Energizer Bunny to a picture of your mom.
