Though some classics exist today that are worth well over $20 million a piece, this list will only cover modern examples. Working up the list to the heftiest price tag, these are the eight most expensive cars in the world, as of 2011.
8. Ascari A10 $650,000
Hand built in Banbury England, this quaint looking street machine contains a carbon fiber framing, weighing in at a mere 1200 kg. A 600 horsepower naturally aspirated V8 propels the A10 from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and on through to a 220 mph top speed. Only ten were ever produced and made custom for their buyers.
7. SSC Ultimate Aero $654,400
Briefly trumping the Bugatti Veyron for the title of fastest production car, the Aero is currently third overall, achieving a mind blowing 257+ mph and reaching 60 from a standstill in only 2.7 seconds. Almost in spite its relatively modest price tag, only 25 have ever been produced by parent company Shelby Super Cars as a means of increasing exclusivity over the Veyron, of which Bugatti has produced hundreds more.
6. Pagani Zonda C12 F $667,321
Leave it to the Italians to make a car this stunningly gorgeous, outlandishly powerful, and wildly expensive. Pagani is a very small operation, and only 25 examples of the Zonda C12 F have been made available. It is powered by a mid-mounted 7.3 liter Mercedes-AMG V12 putting out 650 horsepower and 780 Nm of torque. Other Zondas are available for less, but driving one top down and really hearing that V12 roar is what clinched the number five spot for this convertible.
5. Ferrari Enzo $670,000
Perhaps the most well known supercar ever crafted, the Enzo captured a wide fan base as Ferrari’s flagship model, and named after its founder. In addition to the Enzo’s top speed of 217 mph and 3.4 second 0-60 time, its slender crouching frame, lightweight racing components, and minimalist design give it a penchant for performing extremely well on the track. Only 400 were ever made by Ferrari, and although the line has been discontinued, they are currently selling at auction for well over one million dollars.
3a.It’s a Tie! Koenigsegg Agera R $1,600,000
Flying to sixty from a stop in just 2.8 seconds, the Agera R can achieve an electronically limited top speed of 235 mph. Unregulated, the car has the guts to break an astounding 270 mph. Koenigsegg is currently in delegations to legally unleash the unbridled version of this machine for a single upcoming event.
3b.Lamborghini Reventon $1,600,000
Modeled after a stealth fighter jet, this limited run Lamborghini is the most expensive they have ever built. Its 3.3 second 0-60 time coupled with a 211 mph top speed and dashing good looks are what make it so pricey.
2. Pagani Zonda Clinque Roadster $1,850,000
Another beast from Pagani, the Clinque Roadster can shoot to sixty from zero in 3.4 seconds and tops out at 217 mph.
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport $2,400,000
By far and away the most expensive production car available, the Super Sport is Bugatti’s flagship. Its sixteen-cylinder engine develops a whopping 1200 horsepower, and earns it the titles of both fastest accelerating car with a zero-to-sixty of 2.5 seconds, as well as the fastest top speed, achieving a final velocity of 267 mph.
