2012 movie, phenomenon or meme? However you prefer looking at it, this is all about 2012!

In 2012 as in 2009 or even 1999, I’ve seen something remain constant. Us humans, we’re invariably of two minds: on one hand we never quite seize the time we have, and we tend to live as though we’re immortals; on the other hand we’re terribly afraid of the end of times. In case you’re wondering, that’s pretty much the premise to the latest Apocalypse movie which is quite tentatively called “2012″.
What’s going on in 2012 movie after all? Is that like the new, revamped y2k bug craze?
Well, to put things simply… 2012 is supposed to be the date when our civilization is coming to an end, as foreseen by the long extinct ancient Mayans. This enigmatic and far-seeing people are reknowned for quite a particular vision of space, time and design of the universe (which they’ve elaborated in the mayan calendar, aka calendar of the 13 moons), and they’ve apparently looked far into their future to point out the year of 2012 as the date where the begginning of the end takes place. Like that:
2012 blockbuster movie
Sounds like a top-notch disaster flick, right? If that’s what gets you going, go on and check out the 2012 blockbuster movie official website here. Also… if you want to watch the entire movie legally over the Internet, this is how you do it.
Well, in my opinion this is actually a holywoodesque exploitation and blemishing of what might otherwise be indeed an important date to humankind. In my opinion, the mystical year of 2012 will likely bring us towards grounds of unprecedented change, but I sense it will be unlike anything we can imagine. It’s just too easy to goo all like “whooa it’s the end of the world in 2012, here’s a movie to scare you dimwits:”
2012 internet hype movie
But I really don’t think it’ll be like that. Genuine chance is oftentimes quite subtle; there’s a chance that 2012 will be a year just like any other, and yet beneath the surface it may indeed be a time for radical changes in our mindsets. Well; if you don’t really buy into the whole mayan / spiritualist mumbo jumbo, check here for some crazy (but) scientific-flavored predictions on just how the world might come to an end in 2012.
2012 documentary movie
Likewise, if you’re fascinated (as I am) with the present-day cultural meme surrounding the year of 2012 (about which they’ll hopefully make anotheer movie; a 2012 movie as an apocalypse blockbuster is quite insatisfactory, from all the directions they might have chosen), maybe you’ll prefer contemplating this wikipedia article on 2012 phenomenon, for a delicious round-up of all the information that’s fascinated us all for so many years now. Us humans, we just have to get our imaginations tickled, haven’t we?

I agree, the 2012 movie appears to be propaganda-ish. In the trailers, John Cusack just looks like he’s on a bad theme park ride – “WOOAAA”
2012 believers: they go to watch “2012″ and buy crackpot books devoted to the subject, making Roland Emmerich and the book authors rich.
2012 skeptics: they read Bad Astronomy, for which Phil Plait receives no monetary reward.
