If you really love birds, think twice before caging them.

Words have a certain magic quality lurking behind them; when put together in the right combination, some words can stick with us for a lifetime. For instance, I remember someone once told me that “If you love something, let it roam free… if it doesn’t come back, it wasn’t meant to be”. You know what I mean? Sometimes, people seem to confuse loving with clutching, but in my opinion that’s an unfortunate misconception.

There are many people out there who enjoy thinking of themselves as bird lovers, simply because they enjoy cramming birds into cages, as though they were some sort of collectible. I think this is a terrible thing to do, especially because I always associate birds with freedom… from my romantic conception, a caged bird is no longer a bird: it becomes a simple prop.

So… If you really love birds, do them a favor… don’t try and incarcerate birds, just allow them do keep doing their own thing. If you enjoy observing them and you wish to see them around your backyard, you just need to get yourself a bird feeder… preferably a squirrel-proof bird feeder, unless you also feel like catering to those small backyard rodents.

Trust me… by choosing a bird feeder over a bird cage, you’ll get access to best of both worlds. You’ll get to watch the birds you love so much, without no need of depriving them from their most valuable asset: their freedom! And you should rest assured they will always be coming back for more.
