Badvertisements 1 : Ads I really don’t get!

admin November 27th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Within the crowded modern markets, modern market-ists certainly don’t have it easy. There’s so much information going around, so many people trying to sell their thing and build their profit, that sometimes advertisers engage some desperate stunts to try and stand out from the crowd. Needless to say, in certain occasions some ads effectively succeed in doing so, but for all the wrong reasons.

real juicy beef

Have you ever come across a publicity that left you utterly puzzled and confused, all the while thinking “Were they actually trying to sell me on something or just chase me away? Are they trying to confuse me?”.

I certainly have thought so, and in fact it’s been happening so often that I decided to put together a list of my favorite BADVERTISEMENTS out there, so you can take your best shot at guessing what the hell it’s all about.

Let’s start with this bunch from OSO, a brand of food wrap. Okay, so they’re trying to tell us that if we don’t buy their product… our food will try to do stupid things? Shouldn’t the slogan read “If you don’t buy this, your food will try to kill itself in moronic fashion!”, or something like that? I’m really lost, here.

Okay, so next we have this brillian set from Aquafresh. Continue Reading »

Want to help make a happy Christmas? Check the Payatas!

admin November 22nd, 2008

Good news, everyone! If you’re looking for a worthwhile charitable cause to donate some money this Christmas, I’ve just learned about something that might be perfect for you: Christmas For Payatas. As you might have heard, many people are banding together to support this charity and to help those kids. I’m leaving you with a video and the official press release, so you can make an informed decision.

The landfill in Payatas, The Philippines, is notoriously known the world over as Smokey Mountain. For over 35 years, the smoking dump site has grown to become a stark and heart-tugging reminder of the desperate onditions of humanity.

On a daily basis, children pick through newly arrived garbage to
collect material to sell. The earnings made by one child are not enough to even buy food for the day. Hence, entire families are forced to climb the mountain each day, hoping to earn enough to feed everyone. Children as young as four years old are forced to work in this daily struggle for survival.

In response to the plight of these children, Totedaddy.com is working with Lighthouse Center For Children Foundation to bring a little cheer to the children this Christmas.

Totedaddy.com has kicked off with a cash sponsorship of USD 10,000 to enable the children to celebrate Christmas. FusionExcel International has also pitched in a USD 5,000 in cash sponsorship. The money raised
will help fund the projects already in place, and help fund additional projects aimed at providing better housing, and a means of livelihood for the Payatas community.

It is hoped that by creating better awareness to the plight of these children, more support can be garnered towards their betterment. Together we can bury poverty!

The amazingly drowsy little dog!

admin November 22nd, 2008

Aw… just look at the cute little thing! Somehow I can almost tell what’s going through its mind, though… that’s the feeling you usually get after living through a hard day’s night. It’s a very brave puppy, but I think it might as well take a nap and finishing doing his work in the morning… which is just what I’m about to do, myself. Thanks for the inspiration, little buddy!

Can’t find cheap eyeglasses? Maybe you need Zenni!

admin November 15th, 2008

The world around us is abundant with beauty… provided one knows how to focus on what really matters. All the while, focusing on beautiful sights is of no avail unless you’ve got a decent vision; and it seems that at least 2/3 of Americans really don’t - judging from the amount of people who are estimated to require some kind of vision aid.

If you aren’t among the small elite who are blessed with a perfect vision can finally rejoice… and I’ll say it’s about time! Not because there is some innovative cure, but simply because at least now, you can get your own vision aid at a very reasonable price. You’ve probably heard all the hype about Zenni Optical, which includes some optical recognition courtesy of the Chicago Tribune: “People can pay more than $1,000 for a pair of glasses, while at least one Internet provider promises a pair for $8.”

Simply enough, Zenni is a no-frills online eyeglasses provider, which according to some people have revolutionize the industry with an innovative cost effective pricing. I’ve been browsing around the website, and I should say… this really looks like a positive deal, for anyone who requires prescription glasses. There is a huge variety of frames and lenses - all kinds of lenses, including bifocal, sunsensor and tinted… and the best thing about it is definitely the price.

I’m not sure about the quality and effectiveness of the product since I haven’t tried it, but I’m confident it should be good enough… besides, I hope anyone reading this who’s purchased eyeglasses from this company to provide us with a testimonial! If the product is really good, it’s definitely worth spreading the word, on account of the drastically low prices!

The Attack of the Invisible Skateboards!

admin November 15th, 2008

In yet another display of brilliancy and technical expertize, director Spike Jonze toasts us with yet another of his cool, cool videos. This time around he focused on the world of Skateboard, while making a rather interesting and unique twist: something as unpredictable yet plain as no-skate skateboarding! As you’re about to find out, this is quite a remarkable video, and makes me really wonder how did he do it… I mean, I know this was composed with a blue / green screen technique, but all the while I can’t really figure out how it was put together… very nice!

Got boss? You might want to try this key!

admin November 15th, 2008

Everyone who’s ever used a computer in the workplace must at some point felt the urge to take a little breather from the work routine, and play some games or watch some videos. Naturally, this is something that most bosses won’t be comfortable about (despite the fact that an occasional little break can actually enhance productivity), so it’s no wonder that certain applications sometimes include the infamous Boss Key.

As you’re probably aware, this is a codeword for a technique that will Hide Windows Free; but as Operating Systems have become increasingly more sophisticated, the need has arised for a more advanced kind of boss key. If this is something you can relate with, you might want to check out this specific boss key software, which many people seem to hold in high regards. So if you’re out looking for a way to help you “kill” those idle work moments, this might be the thing for you!

Have you defeated your disease? Please share!

admin November 14th, 2008

One of the things about the Internet is concerned with its highly fluid and surprising nature. Every once in a while, someone will come up with innovative ideas for website that will really make the world a little better place. Sometimes such ideas can be highly complex and sophisticated, and sometimes it can be something as simple as a beacon of hope. Today I’m about to provide an illustrative example of the latter.

Simply put, How I defeated is a website focusing on cataloging real testimonials from people who have surpassed terrible diseases such as Heart Disease, Diabetes, Cancer and Depression. It includes several articles written by people who once thought their fate had been set in a dark tone, but they ultimately succeeded in reclaiming their lives. Truly inspiration, and a worthwhile read for everyone, no matter if you’re healthy or sick.

United we get Across, Divided we’d Stumble!

admin November 9th, 2008

I just stumbled across this cartoon (author unkown) which clearly demonstrates an important principle which should not be taken lightly: when people effectively work together as a team, the whole is always greater than just a sum of the parts. I felt like sharing the picture, along with a little food for thought, so brace yourself:

this is how we do it!

this is how we do it!

This reminds me of that old chinese story, which revolved around twigs… you see, you can easily break 10 twigs separately, but once you join them together, it will be unlikely you can break them at once (unless you have got some super-breaking powers, or something like that). Keep this in mind for future reference! It may not sound like much, but trust me… anyone who suceeds in genuinely working as a team will succeed in going places he never be capable of getting at on his own.
