Wearing gemstone beads as a reminder of ideals sought?

Human beings are vain creatures. No surprises here, right? I mean, we enjoy cultivating our looks, and we love when other people look at us with admiration, and we go out of our way in order to impress others. I think we might as well admit it, since there’s really nothing necessarily wrong with that - it’s part of our nature, I suppose.

Millions of dollars are spent each day on frivolous, decorative garments, such as these gemstone beads… and once we think about it… what’s the worth in a rock (precious or otherwise), if not for the potential to exercise our vanity? I mean, precious stones have an underlying sense of beauty and class to them - that’s undeniable - so, what better reason to wear one such precious stone, if not the elusive chance of partaking its uniqueness and beauty?
Okay, like I said… there’s really nothing wrong with a little vanity: just as long as we keep perspective. However, why not think of such investment as a chance for self-improvement?
