Iron Chandeliers, and a balanced reflection of time Immemorial!

admin April 12th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated with those intricate antique-looking iron chandeliers. I’m not sure I’d actually like to own one of these (they’re kind of too much high profile for my taste), but I get fascinated every time I see one of these live. If I ever own a mansion, I’ll definitely get into the whole ominous furniture thing, but in the meanwhile I suppose I’ll just keep musing.

I went to youtube looking for cool videos about chandeliers to provide some illustration to my thoughts, but it was of no avail ( I wanted to get one of those film noir scenes with a beautiful woman in a flashy dress something a thoughtful cigar under a swinging chandelier); unfortunately there’s not chandelier action going on youtube, but I did found the following video - and it’s actually interesting, even though it doesn’t really focus the chandeliering essence. Just take a look and let me know what you think! Comments are welcome and encouraged.

Are you happy with your body image? If so, maybe something’s wrong with you!

admin April 12th, 2008

I was watching this funny video where a group of salts-of-earth got interviewed concerning their self awareness - particularly where it concerns their body image. What I saw only reinforces my recurring perception that there isn’t such thing as a person who’s 100% happy with his / hers body image. Honestly speaking, most people would like to change some aspect of their bodies, for some reason or other. I think this goes to show that we might as well accept the cards we got dealt, and focus our effort in taking the best of life - maybe that’s where real beauty originates: contented happiness. keep this in mind next time you feel uncomfortable in your body, maybe it will help!

Life as Room Mates: A Stop Motion animation!

admin April 11th, 2008

If all you can remember from College is a drunken-induced sensation of cardboard-like existence and stop-motion awareness, I’m positive you’ll get a laugh from this video! Otherwise if this isn’t your cup of tea, maybe you’ve hadn’t enough beer in your lifetime. All in all, this 99 second video is clean-cut and engaging, so I’m happy to present it to you my dear readers in sliced fashion - for your enjoyment!

The Finest Label: Paula Rego’s vision of Wine

admin April 9th, 2008

self portrait by Paula Rego

You might have never heard about her, but Paula Rego is one of the most cherished (albeit controverse) fine artists in Portugal (my home country, in case you didn’t know). You might want to learn more about her by checking the wiki article linked back there, but today I’m focusing on a specific artistic controversy which eloped around this brilliant artist, which I’m sure you’ll find rather amusing.

Bath Vanities, and the vision of A bathroom like no other!

admin April 9th, 2008

do you like this kind of furniture?

So what’s your opinion on this kind of modern age bathrooms? I didn’t use to like this kind of designer’s furniture much - I used to think it wasn’t practical, also that it was best suited for showing off rather than actual usage.  Nowadays, I guess I must have ripened or something like that, because it certainly looks more appealing and classy to me. I’m thinking about remodeling my bathroom, and the idea of getting some of these hip bath vanities is actually growing on me. So I was wondering if someone out there has had experience using this kind of furniture, and maybe you’d like to share some insights? If so, please leave a comment.

Slices of Life: Back on track, up and coming blog-like oddities Webzine!

admin April 9th, 2008

If you’re a regular visitor, you probably noticed this website has been down for the past 3-4 days. I’d like to take this opportunity to fill you in on what’s going on, just in case you might have thought yours truly has been dozing off lately. You see, I’ve recently changed my hosting to DrupalValueHosting - and I’m confident this new partnership will allow operations to run smoother than ever.

As you might be aware, for a while now, Slices of Life has been regularly flickering on and off due to traffic overloads, and while this is a good thing (a sign there’s good traffic), it can get pretty annoying to come here and get faced with a traffic overload warning. So you should rest assured that’s a thing of the past. My old webhost, as it turns out was nearly not as half-decent a web host as I had imagined (I was pretty much a rookie webmaster when I started all of this), and it was actually as result of their grudging discourtesy that the website was down during the transition period.

So needless to say, I urge you wholeheartedly not to make business with this ill-willed company, based of my past experience. If you’d like me to tell you exactly why they’re such a lousy company, I’ll be perfectly happy to - otherwise there’s no need for me to delve on bleak waters past. So enough about that, we should focus on the good stuff laying ahead.

You see, since my marketing effort have bore reasonable fruits in the past few months, I’m now comminted to working full time my few websites now, and just so you know Slices of Life is my crown jewelry. I’ve got great hopes and expectations for this website (which is about to complete its first year in a few months), and I’ve been working behind the scenes to organize resources that will hopefully allow this up-beat corner of the internet to maintain a healthy growth, and keep proving a pleasant resource for all things nice and heart-warming. So if you enjoy visiting us, you should know there are plenty of nice surprises just around the corner. If you like it here, stay tuned for the latest daily reminders!

Thanks for your preference; enjoy your browsing!

Fountain Crafters, your source for decorative fountains!

admin April 7th, 2008

luxurious water fountain

So you like water, eh? There’s something about the liquid element that is just soothing and comforting beyond words, and nothing can get you as relaxed as the sight of running water. If this is accurate, I think you’ll enjoy learning about this provider of outdoor fountains. I was browsing along by chance, and I found myself lusting after these cool - if not luxurious - household decorations. This is somewhat out of my budget, but if you can afford it and you’re interested in getting a wall fountain, this is the place you want to check out. Enjoy your running water, and let it remind you to keep in flux as well.

this is quite a fluid indoor decoration, I\'ll say

Never mix Carlsberg and Mentos: here’s Why!

admin April 4th, 2008

You might have heard about the violent chemical reaction which originates from throwing some Mentos inside a bottle of Diet Coke - I mean, a few years ago half the internet was doing that. However, it’s quite likely you haven’t been warned about the dangers of mixing Carlsberg Beer and Mentos, which makes up for an even more aggressive reaction. If you want to know what happens when you mix the forbidden ingredients, just watch this video:

Jeff Goldblum on a Drunken Rant about Macintosh!

admin April 4th, 2008

The following video is a perfect demonstration of two interesting principles:

1) slowed-down video will be likely to make anyone sound like a drunk.
2) technology videos from the 90’s excel at sounding like drunken rants.

Wouldn’t you agree?
