How long can a person live without food or water? According to the widespread medical perspective, no longer than a few days. Would it be possible for someone to survive for vast periods without any kind of nourishment? Apparently not, unless the person could withdraw his energy from something as insubstancial as air and dreams. What about this boy called Ram Bahadur Bomjon, then? Maybe he is bound by a different set of physical rules than the rest of us, or perhaps he has merely tapped into the vast hidden potential of the human being? That’s up for you to decide; I’ll tell you the story nice and straight, present you with facts and references so you can make your own judgement.

Ram Bahadur Bomjon, also known within the buddhist cosmologies as Palden Dorge, is a Nepalese youth who has gathered international attention by doing… well, nothing. Long, intense, deeply heartfelt periods of nothingness, that’s what this impressive boy is all about. He is reputed to be capable of just sitting in the same place for several months, engaged in deep meditation without need for food or water - or anything else for that matter, as tough he was nothing but a pure stream of consciousness. Do you believe something like this is actually possible? The locals refer to him as the reincarnation of Buddha, although Palden Dorge himself claims he’s just a teacher, and that he will need to go through several years of meditation until he attains ultimate enlightenment extreme. Myself, I like to keep an open mind while taking nothing for its apparent value, so I don’t really have an opinion. I do think this is a fascinating character, and all in all, I certainly enjoy wondering that it may be possible for human beings to survive with nothing but air and dreams!
