Everyone has heard of a solar eclipse, but have you ever heard of sundogs? This is another type of overwhelming phenomenon involving the sun, where an illusion is created that makes it appear as tough there are several minor suns floating alongside the real one. According to my research, this is caused by the reflection of light upon ice crystals in the atmosphere. Apparently it’s a relatively common effect, however I had never heard of it; maybe it’s restricted to certain regions of the world. In all case, the effect can be quite impressive, as demonstrated in the following video - judging from the vocal reactions over the video, it goes without saying they’d never heard of sun dogs either. I don’t understand the language, but it sounds as tough they think it’s an evil omen up in the sky! Well they’re wrong, and now all of us know better! Isn’t understanding the best thing ever?
