10 Most amazing extinct animals!

admin August 28th, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

In my on-going quest for earthly oddities, I’ve come across a fabulous resource which I now humbly regard as an older sibling of this young (but vigorous) website I’ve been diligently maintaining for the past few months. It’s Oddee , a website dubbed as a “blog on the oddities of our world”. Within this website there are some amazing lists, some of which I’ll feature in future posts.

Take this one, for example: It’s the top 10 most amazing extinct animals. There are quite some fascinating beasts within this article, including the Dodo, which I’ve already discussed in a previous slice of life. Another fine example of extinct animal oddity (featured in the second position from the list) is the Quagga, which looks like a croos between a horse and a zebra - even tough it’s actually a subspecies of the Zebra.

Quagga photo

My amazing scientific intincts tell me that the Quagga was one of the last Zebra sub-species to be created, and the lack of striped in the rear portion of the animal can be easily explained: Mother nature had just ran out of ink. Impressive, uh? Anyway, the Quagga is not to be confused with its human-instilled counterparts the zebroids (cross-bred zebras) which include several variants such as zeedonks, zonkeys and zorses.

With the advent of the internet, on-line shopping has become an increasing reality as well. Consequently - as amazing as it may sound - now it’s not possible, but actually advantageous to buy furniture online! Can you believe this? The world’s top 25 weirdest animals! Could it be?

admin August 28th, 2007

If you’re a regular visitor to this daily reminder of everything nice, you might have noticed already that I have a fascination for animals. Not just any animal - mind you - what interests me the most is learning about the most bizarre creatures roaming the Green earth and the Blue sea.

So, when I discovered this web page comprising a top 25 of the world’s strangest animals, I was very impressed. This is a really strong list - in fact according to my inside sources, the funny-looking platypus (which is a insanely weird creature indeed) almost didn’t make it into the top 26! –Just so you know we’re talking serious oddities here. Within this amazing list, you’ll find such incredibly bizarre creatures as the Star-nosed mole, and the Axolotl, portrayed bellow:

Looks like something conjured out of the blue by the wildest sci-fi creators teamed up with the most talented CGI animators, doesn’t it? Well but it’s not! Just so you know Mother Nature is still capable of surprising us, in the fast-paced modern days we live by! Click here to read the Top 25 World’s Weirdest Animals!

Up for some ghost stories? Welcome to the Essex Mountain Sanatorium!

admin August 28th, 2007

Whether they believe on ghosts or not, almost everyone I know loves hearing a nice ghost story, and I think most people feel drawn by the feeling they get when they learn about haunted places. Well, the picture bellow has a nice story going that may just shake those goose bumps - and the photo is just the beggining of it.  This screenshot was taken within the Essex Mountain Sanatorium, an abandoned building near New Jersey that has many strange stories going about, most of which you can learn about by visiting the website here.

Mountain Essex Sanatorium

Legend has it the Sanatorium was abandoned in 1977 under very strange circumstances - ever since, many people regarded the place as haunted, and eerie legends began to flourish. The photo was taken by some guys from a rock band, who claim there was no mist in the spot, even tough many pictures turned out tainted with human-like figures. Such as this one, where you can see this agonizing face screaming at the camera, if you look at it the right way. I’m not sure I believe any of this, altough I think the story is quite fascinating - I wish I can go there someday and draw my own conclusions. Click here to learn more about the place.

Say it worse with T-mail: it’s the home of Tacky postcards!

admin August 28th, 2007

 Tacky Postcards

They usually say you can express your feelings best with a nice postcard (although that’s probably just marketing). So, when I found this website which dedicates to tracking down and discussing the worse postcards ever to be printed, I figured it could be regarded as a way of saying it worse. Clever, uh? Yes, I think this is pretty much how the people who devised such postcards thought in the first place, and look where they ended up. If you want an example of a sordid postcard, just check the following picture:

What feeling do you suppose this postcard meant to impress? “Hey we’re picking potatoes it’s really nice here, and you should join us?” Definitely not one of the most cleave cards in the stack, I’ll say. Anyway, within Tacky Mail, you’ll have access to plenty postcards which are just as bad or even worse! And you can even send electronic versions of such cards to your friends — or foes, I’m not really sure. Anyways, enjoy your mailings and remember it’s all about the feelings you express, not the cards you choose.

Feeling romantic? Why give flowers when you can offer an entire tree?

admin August 28th, 2007

While people usually send flowers to each other as display of affection, that is really dumb once you think of it. Flowers wither and fade, and that’s simply because they were meant to root on the ground, not in vases. If you want to provide your loved one with a *living* proof of your affection, why not send a whole tree?

Tree Givers

Well, sending a whole tree is definitely not practical - and it would wither and fade all the same - but once you visit this website called treegivers.com, you will learn how you can offer a gift that actually supports nature, rather than putting it in a jar. You can choose a state or county of your preference, and the person you set as recipient will receive a certificate detailing how you both are responsible for helping restore the green landscapes of yesteryear.

Freaky Dreams: your automated dream dictionary!

admin August 27th, 2007

In a way, FreakyDreams can be simply described as an online dream dictionary. The main difference lies in the way it works; rather than browsing through a list of words and their significance in dreams, you’re asked to input a detailed description of the dream you want to analyze. The program then picks the keywords you’ve used and provides you with a list of their meaning. I think this is useful in helping you concentrate your train of thought upon detailing your dream without having to flip back and forth through a dream dictionary; also, you get to think about and evaluate the meaning yourself, when you’re through describing your dream, which in my opinion is better than receiving a fortune-teller like prediction.

Freaky dreams

I found this resource by chance, and I didn’t think it was impressive at all until I tried using it to interpret a strange dream I’ve had last night. The results were actually thought-provoking, so I figured I might as well let you know about it (the website, not the results - god forbid). Click here to access FreakyDreams.com and have fun scrutinizing your own dreams.

Japanese human tetris: You just fill in the gaps!

admin August 27th, 2007

This is the perfect entertainment for everyone who both enjoys playing tetris and making fun of japanese people. And just before you accuse me of professing ethnic slur, just watch the following video, and you’ll realize how japanese people enjoy mocking themselves more than anyone else. This is footage from some sort of crazy japanese game show where the contestants are expected to play a human variety of tetris where the punishment for failure is getting pushed into a swimming pool. While the premise sounds simple enough, most contestants don’t succed, either because they are totally inept or because they’re required to mimic the most awkward block shapes you can imagine. Some of those little guys really try doing their best tough, it’s actually kind of inspiring once you think of it.

How to get your household utility services without crossing any lines?

admin August 27th, 2007

The objective of this plain flash riddle looks apparently simple yet it’s quite elusive: all you need to do is connect each house to the water, electricity and gas service. The catch? there is just one - you cannot cross any lines! Do you think it’s easy? just give it a try and maybe you’ll realize it’s a lot trickier than it sounds! If someone asks for it, I’ll be glad to post the solution. Have fun!

Paint Jammer Dan Dunn: Just wait until you see the big picture!

admin August 27th, 2007

Whether you like painting or you simply enjoy watching others do it, this is a video that will definitely interest you. Within the first couple of minutes of this painting Jam, it’s quite possibly you’ll find yourself thinking it’s really nothing special - myself I couldn’t help thinking “what a loser” - but by the end of it, I assure you will be amazed with the result - so make sure to keep watching it, and whatever you do just don’t skip ahead. This is a great performance with great musing and timing; also it’s a great demonstration supporting the idea that only when you look at the big picture will you understand what life is all about. Very nice!
