The following prayer is widely known throughout the world, as result of being adopted by the Alcoholics Anonyms. While I’m neither an Alcoholic nor an Anomym, I still can relate very closely to the Ideals ascribed within this inspired address. It was originally created by a theologian called R. Niebuhr in the 1930′s, and was later adapted by many others. This slice of life will provide you with an extended version of this inspired text, much to your reflection and enjoyment. While I’m not a catholic – or a religious person by that matter – I find great value in these words, and hopefully so will you.
- God, give us grace to accept with serenity
- the things that cannot be changed,
- Courage to change the things
- which should be changed,
- and the Wisdom to distinguish
- the one from the other.
- Living one day at a time,
- Enjoying one moment at a time,
- Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
- Taking, as Jesus did,
- This sinful world as it is,
- Not as I would have it,
- Trusting that You will make all things right,
- If I surrender to Your will,
- So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
- And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
