If you suppose this is a post about the revered “the Iliad/the Odissey” by Homer, then you might as well stop reading. No, wait! Since you’re at here anyway, why don’t you take a break from your scholarly endeavours and take the chance to make some serious thinking about inner travels? Today’s slice of life is a video clip from the yellowest TV show in history, The Simpsons. In this episode, Homer tries to prove he’s the spice of town by eating chief Wigglum’s extra-spicy imported chili peppers. The thing is, those chili’s really pack a punch, so first time Homie-boy takes one, he widely bursts in tears and swollen suffocation. However, the yellow-bellied character would not go down so easily… before jumping into round 2, he gulps down a container with warm wax; as the wax dries up, Homer’s mouth becomes isolated and chili-proof, and thus he proceeds to gobble several spicy chilli’s.

This is where the video excerpt picks up,  as Homer eats several chili’s, much to everyone’s amazement. Certainly, Homer’s mouth was isolated, however he forgot a crucial technicality… his stomach wasn’t. Influenced by chili hot overdrive, the protagonist unknowingly proceeds on the farthest journey, all of a sudden. He experiences intense hallucinations which arguably provide one of the most memorable passages in 18 years of Simpsons history. So when you come back to your regular affairs after checking out your daily slice of life, make sure to remember that 1) Take it easy on the chili 2) Don’t take it easy on getting to know yourself.
