Do you believe in God?

“I refuse to prove that I exist,” says God, “for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.”

god

Sometimes I cannot help wondering about this sort of thing. When I look at people in the street, I tend to imagine their innermost feelings, secrets and beliefs… it just comes naturally. So, when I see so many people browsing trough my life’s slices, it follows naturally that I think about the same. As far as religiosity goes, I think there are only three types of people in this world: those who believe in God, those who *think* they don’t believe, and those who aren’t really sure.

For starters, I suppose it’s only fair that i talk a bit about what I believe in, as well. First of all, I think “God” is a very nasty word. I like to think of myself as a universalist skeptic. I believe in all conceptions of “God” by believing in none; this is because I think the “God” people toss around so often is actually a concept, whereas the actual “God” is something similar to that, yet beyond … much like the sky is beyond the clouds, even though our limited perspective makes us think it’s all the same.

What I believe in, I like to refer as the Nameless One. I believe there is just a single source in creation, and it’s so huge that it allows us to derive whatever interpretation we want. It’s something so magnificent that it has endowed us with free will, and even the ability to be contradictory. Many people would think that such conception as mine would amount to a careless negligent God, but I for One like to think that my mistakes are my greatest teachers.

I think we’re all dots in the One Matrix, that we have divine potencial that can be achieved just by acceptance and nurturing. I don’t think of “God”  as something out there, but as a missing piece which makes us whole. This is why I think everyone must believe in it, even if only by the negation. The people who lack faith, still have faith in their lack of faith! Maybe I’m losing you? Tell me…

What do *you* believe in?

Scary Video! You must beware the signs!

admin June 18th, 2007

Did I just type “scary video”? I think I meant silly video… but now that I think of it, I’m not so sure; the voices in my head won’t afford me assertiveness, not right now. Well, before I further confuse you, make sure to check out the folowing video, which provides a nice mock-up of the typical hollywood haunting films.

The world’s Largest Gummi Bear!

admin June 17th, 2007

You know I’m a huge candy junkie - especially gummi bears - and today is a very happy day indeed, because I came across this truly inspiring behemoth of a candy, which is the result of the brilliant mind of the guy in the photos (which shall be respectfully referred to as “Mr. Candy Man” from now on). Mr. Candy Man is obviously not only a person who enjoys his candy, but he also likes to thread boldly unto the dark realms of the never seen. With that in mind, Mr. Candy Man set on the noble task of creating what may just be the largest gummi bear ever.

greatest gummi bear ever!

Truly, a monument to the power of candy. Mr. Candy man achieved this victory by melting down 13lbs. of candy and pouring the mixture within a animal-shaped crackers jar. For a visual log detailing the process, refer to Mr. Candy Man’s official memorabilia page here.

What do you have that God hasn’t?

admin June 16th, 2007

There was an old sage who lived in the moutains, and the people throughout the land revered him for his immense wisdom, and it was thought that there was no question that he could not answer. However, there was a day when a young child visited the wise old man and managed to shock him by asking the simple question: Continue Reading »

slices June 15th, 2007

There are many people out there - such as myself - who have been introduced to the world of computing via the massively popular micro-computer from the eighties, the ZX spectrum. Who doesn’t recall the tedious tape loading times, the psychadelic sidebars and that loveable screeching noise? Who can’t relate to the feeling of waiting (sometimes up to) several minutes to play those glorious 8-bit videogame hits which offered unrivaled mistique and entertainment?

ZX spectrum

Well, for anyone up to relive such warm childhood memories, I’ve just found the perfect website! Amazing! It’s the Youtube video of the guy who photographed himself every day for three (rather six) years!

slices June 14th, 2007

Ladies and Gentleman, hereupon today’s slice, I present you with… Noah Kalina, the New york photographer who would sprung to Internet stardom by making a video called “everyday”, whereupon he basically takes a photo of himself every day for 6 years!

Now who would have thought of something like that? Well, in my humble opinion, many people would, but only a few bold chosen ones have actually surfaced with a collage of daily photographs of the self… recurring for no less than 6 years, I say! What about that?

Maybe it’s just the music, maybe it’s just too far out of a concept… there are really no words to describe the awkwardness of this video; rather, the awkwardness of the emotions it evokes, the soft remission of the yesterday by now, cast dinamicaly into the present future… actually, rather than indulging my gibberish, you dont you check out this amazing video?

If you ever feel like making something like this, make sure to send me the video! I’ll cut you a slice (of life, that is!), y’hear me?

Check out wikipedia article for more insightfull information :

Noah Kalina (b. 1980) is a New York City photographer who gained Internet fame in late 2006 for his viral video entitled everyday

(Slices of) Life is like a box of chocolates!

Forrest Gump chocolates

Remember that great old movie Forrest Gump? The part when Forrest claimed that his momma had always told him that life is like a box of cholates? Well, that’s because you never know what you’ll get… until you try it! I couldn’t agre more to this philosophy, and I think it’s actually one of the things I like best about life. You’re always up for surprises, as long as you keep yourself receptive to the flux around you.  And even the worse experiences can add up to life’s sweet&sour flavor!

In fact, I’d like this humble website to be a tribute to life’s unpredicability, that’s why I always keep posting about the strangest, most eclectic stuff that I  come across in the vast cyberspace. All of this is a reminder, of why we like it here! So if you can relate to this feeling, make sure to come back, and don’t be afraid to explore the archives… you never know what you’ll get!

The Riddle of the great escape

slices June 12th, 2007

Nowadays everyone is so hyped up with the hit TV series Prison Break, that I figured I might as well come up with an old-school riddle, sporting a similar flavor. It’s about two convicts who are trying to escape their hostile predicament. Only this time, there is no tatooed super-genius who will come up with an elaborate plan; only you can help! Will you be able to come up with the solution? The riddle goes like this:

 wc_jail_window.jpg

Two convicts are locked in a cell.

There is an unbarred window high up in the cell.

No matter if they stand on the bed or one on top of the other they can’t reach the window to escape.

They then decide to tunnel out.

However, they give up with the tunnelling because it will take too long.

Finally one of the convicts figures out how to escape from the cell.

What is his plan?

BadgerBadgerBadger - The Original

slices June 11th, 2007

For anyone who was missing some crazy flash action, I just got reminded of this absurdly compelling cartoon, which is comprised basically of dancing badgers and annoying music. This animation has been hugely popular around the Internet, in the past few years; in my opinion, this fact stands as an homage to the amazing power of independent self-publishing. The careless viewer may only see annoying badgers, yet I cannot help but seeing unlimited potential; the global network has become so vast nowadays, that you can pretty much do anything you can think of, and there will still be an audience. The future is here… and I’m very much loving it! Go, badgers, go!

The “Garadiavolo”: genuine devil’s face, or just a plain old ray?

slices June 10th, 2007

garadiavologaradiavolo 2

See the ugly critters above? Looks like something straight from outer space ( or at least a bad sci-fi movie), right? Well, it turns out this eerie beast, suggestively titled the “Garadiavolo” or “devil’s face” is nothing other but the innocent protagonist of a fascinating scientific scam, authored by one fearless explorer / con artist called Aufredo Garcia Garamendi.

During one of his expeditions in Porto Rico in 1974, Mr. Garamendi claimed that he was attacked by one of this horrible creatures, which allegedly tried to choke him. The bold adventurer escaped by a close shot, since he barely managed to take out his dagger and kill the beast dead, which he then baptized Garadiavolo. He took the beast home as a trophee, and later on he would be visited by some CIA agents who would have taken the Garadiavolo away. As result, a huge mystery was set, and many people were enticed with the possibility that it was a sort of alien animal or even an unknown specied.

…….or so the story goes. Truth of the matter was,  Mr. Garamendi must have been acquainted with some local scam artists, who know how to take an unsuspecting Ray fish (such as the one in the picture bellow) and turn it into alien-like beast by making a few strategic cuts and letting the poor fish dry out in the sun. This is a really effective trick because the fish’s nostrils actually look like some devilish eyes, once dried out. All in all, this is nothing but a local Puerto Rican curiosity which a smart explorer conveniently turned into a huge mystery. Makes you wonder, eh?
