“Play” is a self-reflective dissertation on the ephemerid of life, it’s a bold statement that’s intended to serve as alert to the self-imposed hells we confine ourselves into; by shutting our communication with the outside world, we become agents of out own demise. The three characters in “Play” are portrayed as three lost souls in a purgatory of their own creation. I think the most striking aspect is that the characters never once address each other, and the spotlight only reinforces that they suffer separately; even tough their destinies were entangled unpleasantly, the three characters refuse to work things out with each other, thus causing the kind of personal dramas that makes life truly the grandest “Play” of them all.As far as I can tell, the absurdist movement intended to direct people towards self-realization by shocking them with the most unexpected settings and occurrences; by confusing the viewer, the artist aimed to impress some truths regarding their own understanding of life.
