I’m not sure what to make out of this news, with all the talk about the perils behind genetic manipulation and such. Truth of the matter is, it seems a taiwanese scientist (Professor H.J. Tsai at National) has figured out a way to make plain old color-less fish turn into fluorescent children of the fish-devil. Okay, actually they just glow in the dark… but what next? Three-eyed fish, Simpsons-style, maybe? I cannot help being a little disturbed with this kind of thing, even tough part of me does actually think it’s kind of nice. The prodigious scientist achieved this feat by injecting jellyfish protein in the fertilized fish eggs, and it appears he also hatched up a vibrant pink variety by using coral proteins, instead.
